Automotive Transponder Security
Automotive manufactures since the late 1990’s have fitted their vehicles with security transponders immobiliser systems. The key has an electronic chip, inserted into the head of the key. The transponder contains an encrypted code, specific to that key. When the key is turned, it activates a radio frequency. The surround of the ignition reads this. The signal is then sent to a computer located in the vehicle, where it is decrypted. If both the keys and computer recognize each other, the vehicle will then start.
